February Health & Safety Reminders

Respiratory Illness & COVID-19 Reminders

Cold, flu, and COVID-19 cases tend to increase during the winter months. We all play a role in protecting one another and maintaining a healthy workplace.

Please remember to:

  • Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, or body aches.

  • Notify your supervisor if you are feeling unwell or have tested positive for COVID-19.

  • Follow CDC guidance regarding isolation, return-to-work expectations, and available leave options.

  • Practice good hygiene, including frequent handwashing and covering coughs or sneezes.

  • Use masks if you prefer

If you have questions about time off, leave benefits, or return-to-work guidance, HR is available to support you.

Inclement Weather Safety & After-Storm Awareness

Winter weather can be unpredictable, and safety should always come first, both during storms and in the days that follow.

During severe weather:

  • Allow extra time for commuting and avoid unnecessary risks.

  • Wear appropriate footwear and outerwear to reduce the risk of slips and falls.

  • Stay alert for agency updates related to weather conditions.

After winter storms:

  • Walk slowly and watch for ice or slippery surfaces, especially near entrances, sidewalks, and parking areas.

  • Use handrails on stairs whenever available.

  • Wear slip-resistant footwear to improve traction.

  • Allow extra time when entering or exiting buildings—rushing increases the risk of falls.

  • Avoid areas that appear unsafe or have not yet been cleared.

  • Report any hazards such as ice buildup, leaks, fallen branches, or blocked walkways to your supervisor or Facilities as soon as possible.

  • If you experience or witness a slip, fall, or near-miss, notify your supervisor promptly so the area can be addressed

  • Report any work-related injury to HR as soon as possible, even if the injury seems minor, so we can ensure proper support, documentation, and follow-up.

If weather conditions make travel unsafe, please communicate with your supervisor as early as possible so appropriate arrangements can be discussed.
