East House accepts employment applications on an on-going basis for mental health and chemical dependency
counselor positions in our rehabilitation programs. The primary mission
of counselors is to improve the quality of
life of clients who are recovering from mental illness, chemical
dependency and other disabling conditions. Major performance objectives
include:

Assessment, development and implementation of
individualized client rehabilitation plans aimed at increasing
physical and mental health; personal satisfaction and self-esteem;
and the ability to live more independently. |

Competence in counseling and training in skills of
independent living including: money management; housekeeping and
personal care; menu planning, food purchasing and preparation;
leisure time activities; medication self-administration and
education and follow-through with medical, psychiatric and chemical
dependency rehabilitation treatment plans. |

Leadership to the development and maintenance of a
therapeutic community. |
 |
Coordination of client services with East House
Career Counselors and other community service providers. |
 |
Competence in client chart record keeping. |
Counselor positions include full-time, part-time and temporary relief
positions in a variety of locations including different group home and
apartment program settings. Most positions involve a mix of day, evening
and some weekend work. Some positions are specifically for overnight
work in group home settings.
Flexibility in the days and hours available to work and computer
literacy is strongly
preferred. Successful candidates will have relevant experience,
education and excellent performance in working with adults with histories of mental illness and
chemical dependency. Minority and bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to

East House provides excellent compensation and benefits to
individuals who are committed to quality client services and
professional development. The starting wage rate for counselors
generally ranges from $10.50 to $14.00 an hour, dependent upon relevant
experience, education and past performance.
