jerry barrick
receives
2011
"Beacon of hope" award

On September 28th, at the annual Hope and Recovery
Celebration, a new award was presented to an alumnus of East House
who serves as an inspiration to others. Jerry Barrick has served for
seventeen years as a Job Coach for the East House Career Services
Supported Employment Program. Jerry has been a wonderful employee,
and has also been in recovery himself for 20 years. His journey
started in 1991, when he entered Blake House to recover from alcohol
dependency. He moved on to the brand new Crossroads Apartment
Program in 1992, then attended college for Human Services. An
internship brought him back to East House, where he excelled in his
duties as a Job Coach. In 1994, Jerry was offered his full-time
position, and since then, has significantly improved the lives of
nearly 1000 clients.
Jerry recruits, interviews, hires, trains and supervises client
workers. Clients find Jerry to be a supportive supervisor as he
helps trainees transition from the SET program to other employment.
Time and again, clients write on their exit questionnaires that,
"The best part of the job was my supervisor Jerry". What
Jerry likes most about his job is working with people who are
starting on their own journey, and providing them with hands-on
experience that they will use in their next job, and for the rest of
their lives. Jerry will retire at the end of 2011, and will be
greatly missed. We thank him for his fine work, his dedication, and
for serving as a very bright "Beacon of Hope" to our
clients.
